In this brief documentary, director, János Richter, takes an inside look at guano extraction at Guañape Sur, a barren rock island of the cost of Peru. The large deposits of guano are the result of hundreds of thousands of sea birds using Guañape Sur as a breeding ground. Although the cinematography is excellent, the film lacks any introduction, narration or substantial dialogue. The absence of these crucial elements makes it difficult not only to follow, but also comprehend this documentary. It is these issues that make it difficult to determine where in a collection this film would best fit. The DVD is broken down into three chapters, Leaving; Arriving; Working, which provides a basic outline of the documentary. This film is not recommended.
