Reviewed by Michael J. Coffta, Business Librarian, Bloomsburg University of PennsylvaniaParenting 10 is a basic yet very sound guide for parents. This work centers upon behavior shaping and discipline for children ages 3 to 6. The film is practical in the sense that does not offer a great deal of profound thought (nor does it give truly practical advice, such as advice on diet), but provides a solid framework for affecting children’s conduct, social view, manners, and sense of self. It also provides a helpful array of “dos and don’ts,” such as the needs to establish trust, have reasonable expectations, reinforce good behavior, and follow through with consequences of children’s actions.
Although this guide starts out slowly, it picks up quickly and grabs the viewer with a sensibly arranged outline format. For its intended purpose, it is a swiftly moving, well-crafted, well distilled primer on parenting that skillfully avoids any didactic tones. The short amount of time invested in watching this work will greatly benefit new and established parents, and give them counsel, reassurance, and confidence.
