China quickly became the world’s factory but things are changing as China begins to focus on a new phase of domestic manufacturing and as other countries, such as France, pursue fresh manufacturing ventures of their own. This documentary provides a brief look inside government and private factories in China, the lives of their employees, and the various ways these companies connect with their international market. It highlights the history of China’s privatization of manufacturing, the future of competition, and current issues such as the quality of the goods and services, human rights, socialism, and innovation. Viewers will see many connections to and perspectives on China’s factories including a “sourcer” (middle man), an experienced international buyer, a factory owner, managers, and employees. This DVD is narrated in English with English subtitles.
