An exploration of the lives and works of two internationally-renowned South African artists: printmaker and animator William Kentridge (b. 1955) and painter Marlene Dumas (b. 1953).

The film opens with interspersed shots of Kentridge preparing for dinner, and then Dumas addressing an audience at the MoMA in New York. Dumas arrives at Kentridge’s country home for the meal, and the two subsequently engage in an honest and heartfelt discussion about each other’s art (and life).

This is a warm almost familial portrayal of two very different artists, but director Catherine Meyburgh has captured in a natural way the two at work in their respective studios, taking us inside their techniques and processes.

The film does contain sexually explicit images and animation.
