This four-disc series was originally broadcast as part of The Nature of Things on Canadian television. There are a lot of DVDs available on topics relating to the ocean, but these are some of the best I have seen. I enjoyed the way in which information was conveyed and was pleased to learn things I had not seen in previous videos. Interviews with experts are woven together with spectacular footage to tell the story of the ocean from its birth and few, if any, topics are missed. The four episodes are: Birth of an Ocean; Footprints in the Sand; Mysteries of the Deep; and The Changing Sea. Each episode is further broken down into chapters and ideal for both home viewing and classroom use. A teacher resource guide is available for this set as well. This series was an “Official Selection” at the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s (Canada) Capital, received the “Best Marine Conservation Message” & “Merit for Scientific Content” awards at the International Wildlife Film Festival and the “Best Marine & Earth Sciences” award at the Blue Ocean Film Festival. I highly recommend this series to public, high-school, and college libraries.
