La Camioneta is a thought-provoking film that takes its audience into an unexpected journey from the United States into Guatemala. In North America, used school buses are frequently purchased by Guatemalans, driven back to South America, and transformed into works of art for public transportation.

The DVD delivers an uncommon take on the economic struggles and cultural differences in the daily lives of Guatemalan society. Although the colorful Camionetas are a symbol of hope and pride for many families, the buses can lead to deadly consequences for innocent drivers who do not pay local gangs extortion money.

Viewers should be aware that the movie begins in the English language, but quickly switches to Spanish with English subtitles in both versions. Specifically, teachers should also be warned that there is some offensive language that is used briefly. However, the cinematography is of high quality while the story is creatively and tastefully expressed. The movie is highly recommended for older audiences and would be an educational plus for any public or academic library collection.
