Have you ever heard of The Phantom Tollbooth…? The whimsical documentary features Norton Juster and Jules Feiffer who are the celebrated author and illustrator of the popular children’s book written fifty years ago. Generations of readers who have enjoyed the publication over decades can get an in-depth account of the storyline and themes discussed between the creators. The film is creatively clever as the two friends are joined to discuss how their working relationship originated.

Even if you haven’t read the classic tale, the presenters are purposeful in their conversations by offering viewers a journey into their personal and professional lives as artists. What’s most intriguing about the film is that it examines the overall idea of thinking outside of the box and how children can problem solve in non-conventional, but meaningful ways.

The DVD is highly recommended for most libraries and can be used as a great resource for teachers, students, writers, researchers, or fans of the book. For special features visit the film’s website.
