Does the benefit of flame retardants in our everyday materials outweigh the daily exposure and cumulative effect these chemicals can have? This is the question explored in Toxic Hot Seat.

Journalists from the Chicago Tribune in 2012 published a series of articles titles “Playing with Fire” which got the attention of law makers in an attempt to educate the public and bring about a change to California Technical Bill 117. This bill requires the use of flame retardants in specifically made materials including most furniture as well as most baby products.

Exhaustive research and lobbying by dedicated individuals brought about a revision to the bill in 2013. This is an excellent film with a very organized presentation on a very important and little known danger. It is also an excellent representation of how the American government works. It clearly depicts how one person can become a voice for the good of all. Each citizen has a vote and each vote counts.
