The storyline is based on the director’s childhood upbringings in the 1960’s as a seven year girl with two older sisters and eccentric parents. Although their parents are caring, they are modernist architects who tend to be disconnected from the rest of the world and its conventional ways of doing things. The youngest daughter often questions why the family has to be so different from others around them and ends up embarrassed most of the time. While their parents provide nice things for them, the girls don’t ever get quite what they ask for. Unfortunately, the request to have individual bicycles from a regular bike shop is no different. Ultimately, the girls end up sharing one awkward looking bike made in Britain Moulton, but love it anyway.

The vibrant colors add to the story by accentuating the style and trends of the 60’s that draw the viewer’s eye into the detailed drawings and various settings within the film. Me and My Moulton is highly recommended for any library collection and can be great for young audiences and enjoyable for adults as well. Torill Cove is an award winning director of animation and illustration.
