There’s a sad reality as to why homosexuality has been a closeted secret. Modern society historically has not been kind to those who are not prescribing to keeping within the normal boundaries of heterosexual relations. If homosexuality was openly practiced, then individuals in conservative societies could be jailed, beaten, their lives threatened, raped or openly shunned by their families. Last Chance is a documentary about five individuals of differing genders and ethnicities, who because of their sexual orientation had to leave their home country and apply for political asylum at Canada as refugees.

Once they established their refugee status and they begin new lives integrating themselves into the Canadian LGBT scene, ultimately, their goal is to prove to Immigration that they can stay as productive citizens who are also homosexuals and not be deported.

The Canadian Immigration system is shown, by interviews with lawyers or advocates. This documentary has English subtitles, but there are clearly several different languages spoken that are not just English, or French. LGBT as a subject has continued to be a hot topic with many sides and issues, so this DVD is useful for public and academic libraries, or collections where there is an emphasis on LGBT material.
