Reviewed by Sandy Costanza D’Youville College, Buffalo, NYHeroin the drug that keeps on giving! After years of struggling with drug addiction Junior is now dealing with a life threatening consequence of his drug use chronic Hepatitis C. A debilitating, deadly disease, Hepatitis C is an inflammation of the liver in its chronic state often times leading to liver failure, liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. Treatment is very taxing, long term and expensive.
In addition to exploring the devastation of drug addiction this film explores the possibility of a future for those same individuals. Working in collaboration with the Methadone Maintenance & Peer Program for Hepatitis C in The Bronx, Junior has learned to speak out against drug use as well as the devastating consequences it has had on his life. For Junior this program provides purpose, inspiration, direction, friendship and a way to give back. The Fix is a haunting film with inspirational music and photography. Not often do we see an inspirational film with a positive spin on drug addiction. Addiction can be beat but will the person survive the consequences?
