Reviewed by James Gordon, University at Buffalo LibrariesThe UN declared 2012 “The International Year of Cooperatives” and provided an incentive for eighteen energetic college students to make a documentary as they bicycle across the USA visiting cooperative businesses, mostly grocery stores.
First-hand accounts from owners and workers in many co-ops are featured. Our bicycle crew gets some hands-on experience, even learning how to run equipment at a laundry co-op in Cleveland, OH. The movie’s primary focus is on all aspects of owning and running a cooperative business.
Of course, bicycling is the greenest way possible to visit sustainable businesses across the land. The group dynamics of the cyclists and their individual reactions to both the road trip and the co-ops they visit provide enlightening insights.
