The legacy of former Sunday Times photojournalist Don McCullin goes far beyond the memorable images he produced throughout his illustrious career.

Ever-mindful of capturing moments while preserving the dignity of his subjects, McCullin vividly recounts his coverage of some of the world’s most perilous events and humanitarian crises – war in Cyprus and Vietnam, famine in Biafra (southeastern Nigeria), and homelessness in London. Throughout the film, McCullin shares his innermost thoughts on the role and ethics of photojournalism. Most poignant are the heart-rending stories behind his pictures and McCullin’s struggle to be detached and objective in telling them.

A prolific blend of McCullin’s still shots and video footage of the times, McCullin documents an era in journalism unafraid to face the realities of human suffering.

Highly recommended for academic and public libraries, McCullin is an excellent resource for courses in ethics, history, journalism, and photography.

McCullin was among the “Best Documentary” and “Outstanding Debut” nominees at the 2013 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.
