This series with its technological focus addresses issues such as breast cancer, resistant bacteria, malaria, and brain functions. This segment, Scar Wars addresses the current state of technology related to developments in wound healing and scar prevention. The initial portion of the video explains the use of several technologies, such as digitized optical scans, MRIs, and ultrasound, to evaluate wound healing. Scientists then discuss the healing process and how we are just beginning to understand the biophysiological processes, which govern it. In the ideal, they state, 'we will learn to turn on healing and turn it off as is needed'. Also presented with a much greater level of scientific detail is information on current research into scar prevention as part of the wound healing process. This section explores areas such as artificially creating skin from seed cells, embryonic healing verses normal cell healing, anti TGF Beta promotion of wound healing, plus the use of specially grown/produced substances (fungal and blood protein based) which assist in the scar prevention/healing process. Although at a few points the scientific jargon seemed overwhelming; the video is well produced and recommended for collections focusing on current scientific/technological issues.
