Abundance on a Dry Land is an inspiring educational documentary that succeeds in introducing viewers to permaculture. In the film, landscape designers, farmers, and permaculture teachers highlight sustainable, water-saving techniques for farming and gardening in both urban and rural settings around the world. The majority of the film is set in California and focuses on gardening and farming during a drought. Viewers in less arid regions will appreciate the film too, especially the section about stormwater management, which impacts so many cities worldwide.

General audiences interested in gardening, farming, sustainability, and water conservation will find this film informative. The excellent videography helps to keep this instructional video interesting. Appropriate for classroom use, portions of the film can stand alone if time is limited. The film will meet the needs of students studying water management and water capture techniques in sustainable agriculture.

Abundance in a Dry Land is best for viewers new to permaculture. There are many films and streaming videos available on permaculture with varying depth, quality and price. Those needing a film about permaculture design or wanting step-by-step instructions should look elsewhere.
