Reaching students through alternative education is a monumental task, but for one school in rural Washington state, it’s a challenge they’ve taken on with open arms.

Paper Tigers tells the incredible story of Lincoln Alternative High School, a place driven by persistence and promise. The camera moves quietly through the halls of Lincoln, personally engaging viewers in the turmoil and triumph of six of its students and the mighty efforts of educators who care for them deeply.

Lincoln’s approach to education hinges on the groundbreaking research related to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). In the majority of cases, these traumatic encounters follow children into adulthood and take their toll on them mentally and physically. Providing a haven of stability and caring adults is the antidote, and Lincoln has struck the right formula.

Emotional and inspiring, Paper Tigers is a powerful reminder that nurturing healthy relationships is the key to a flourishing community.

Highly recommended for academic and public libraries, Paper Tigers is an excellent resource for education, psychology, and sociology courses. It is also an effective professional development tool for teachers and administrators.
