In the twenty-first century youth or the Millennial generation are surrounded by mobile technology and social media. With social media comes apps, i.e. Instagram or Facebook, and with these apps comes the proliferation of selfies or self-photography. This contributes to an ongoing social issue of elevated beauty standards, objectification, sexuality and body dissatisfaction.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and for Samantha and her friend Nang, they film their personal experience of constantly trying to reach a superficial level of beauty. The constant questioning of themselves, and constantly deciding that they don’t match up to a certain level of beauty becomes dangerous for them as they face the threat of developing eating disorders. This documentary is suitable to be shown and added to collections meant for high school level students or existing collections in sociology, psychology, gender issues and emerging technology. A trailer is available on the distributor’s website.
