Anyone familiar with photography has heard of Jon Gray who is one of the world's leading photographers, and the author of a number of books and journal articles including The Manual of Nude Photography (Simon & Schuster, 1983). As with his earlier works, the Masterclass of Photography Series provides a step-by-step workshop beginning with the basics of photography and continuing with more advanced techniques. The series concentrates on techniques for shooting in mid-day sun, shooting by candlelight, dramatic composition, creating atmosphere, general composition, and setting up a studio for artificial light shooting.

The workshops are brief and provide a good introduction to the various techniques. The technical qualities of the tape(s) are very good. (It may be purchased on one 60 minute tape or 2, 30 minute tapes.) While there are many video programs available for learning the basics of photography including The Video Learning Library - How to Shoot a Wedding, and Video Guide to Basic 35 mm Photography (to name only two), Jon Gray's approach is one of the best. It is easy to see that we are viewing the technique of a true master.

This video program is appropriate for all levels from high school through advanced college photography courses. It is also a logical purchase for individuals wishing to improve their shooting techniques.
