Leticia is a young mother in New York City, Ginger is a pregnant artist in Mississippi, and in Los Angeles 17-year Jordyn is entering her senior year in high school. The only thing connecting them is a major loss each suffered early in life. Like one in nine Americans, the three young women lost a parent before reaching adulthood. For daughters whose mother’s die during the child’s formative years, membership in the dead mothers club denotes an ache of loss that may diminish over time but never disappears.

In separate interviews with celebrity members of the club, Jane Fonda, Molly Shannon, and Rosie O’Donnell also describe the impact of their own mother’s early deaths. The intimate and deeply personal stories of children taking on adult responsibilities, grieving, and learning to forgive the parent who leaves too early are some of the topics covered. The first-time filmmakers, and club members themselves, examine the grief process and how those profiled in this emotionally touching documentary have moved or are moving through it to individual, unique, and in some cases uncertain futures.
