Reviewed by Sandy Costanza D’Youville College, Buffalo, NYThis is a remarkable film about the Iranian people and how they responded to the release and subsequent awards won by the film, A Separation by Asghar Farhadi. (From Iran: A Separation itself has won more than 30 awards.) A Separation portrays the people of Iran, their culture and their goodness. The basic premise is that not all Iranians are bad or out to harm others.
This film which documents the making of A Separation as well as the reaction of the people to it, displays both the positive and the negative. Many people felt this film was a huge step towards acceptance of the Iranian people by the world and other protested its existence.
It is always interesting to see a different culture to compare to your own viewpoint but here it is significant because the Iranian culture is critiquing itself. Of note is the courage it took to produce both films in light of the negativity surrounding the Iranian culture today.
