My Love Affair with the Brain is an exceptional narrative biography of one of the founders of neuroscience, Dr. Marian Diamond. Through interviews, video footage, and photographs the viewer catches a glimpse into Dr. Diamond’s personal and professional lives, noting that as “the most magnificent structure on this earth,” how she developed a “love affair” with the human brain. The viewer is captivated by Dr. Diamond’s warm and witty nature, through interviews and speaking engagements to a variety of audiences. The film does well to demonstrate Dr. Diamond’s contributions to science and medicine without overstating her accomplishments. Non-scientific, technical language is used throughout this film, making it more accessible to the general public. Finally, the film captures the significance of the role women play in science, using Dr. Diamond as an example. This is a “must have” film for libraries supporting programs in neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, and biology.
