A sincere perspective on self-discovery. Michal Marczak’s All These Sleepless Nights orchestrates diverse scenes with a protagonist in search of certainty. The film follows a young man as he wanders through the night life in Warsaw, Poland, demonstrating his restlessness. Experiential insights are evenly manifest in dialogues throughout from numerous characters on subjects like vanity, spiritual transience, existence, boredom and normalcy. Simultaneously dramatic and humorous in tone, the meaning of relationships and the liberation from them are examined and resolved, making this film reminiscent of Zach Braff’s Garden State (2004).

The techno musical score compliments the protagonist’s revelations. Striking locations enliven the film’s abstractness. This is primarily intended for European audiences because of the cultural mores exhibited, such as the overt public exhibition of intellectualism among the story’s characters. Likewise, this work is best suited for cultured audiences and for inclusion within academic library collections.
