Subtitled, “The Battle to Disrupt and Reform America’s Public Universities,” Starving the Beast draws strength from Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Abraham Lincoln. Since 1980 funding to education has been cut, while costs have risen. The consequences of recent reforms are described and analyzed, particularly as they affect public education. Is higher education a business? Is it being highly politicized? Free speech is in jeopardy!

Starving the Beast has a powerful and somewhat disturbing message for anyone interested in the state of higher education in the USA. It is suitable for use in any class dealing with issues in higher education administration, and college and university education generally. It is also highly recommended to teaching faculty, as well as citizens interested in the funding of higher education.
