This short film presents the life story of Australian journalist Wilfred Burchett. In September 1945, Burchett was the first Western journalist to see Hiroshima and the victims of the atomic bomb. This was a major turning point in his life. Burchett spent the remainder of his life warning the world against nuclear warfare. He also was the sole Western journalist to report both the Korean and Vietnam Wars from the Communist perspective. While not a Communist himself, Burchett's efforts made him unpopular with the Australian establishment. The government often refused to issue Burchett passports and did not allow him to attend his father's funeral. Despite these roadblocks, Burchett continued his independent reporting until his death in 1983. The program largely allows Burchett to present his own story through interviews and film clips. Individuals interested in alternative reporting will find this work quite interesting. Recommended for academic library collections.
