11/8/16 is a grassroots look at Election Day 2016. The film effectively captures the concerns, excitement, fears, and hopes of a diverse group of people from a variety of locations across the United States, following them as the events of the day unfold. The film explores the reasons people chose who to vote for, and in some cases, why they opt to not vote at all. It effectively captures the raw emotions of confusion, frustration, excitement, and a sense of hopelessness as the results come in. An interesting aspect of the film is how one newspaper’s staff grapples with the uncertainty of what to report as their deadline looms, with no definitive winner for President yet being named. The main criticism is that the film is too long. 11/8/16 will be beneficial in library collections supporting studies in anthropology, political science, and sociology.
