Hepatitis C. A Viral Mystery provides a general introduction to this perplexing disease. It points out that although 4 million Americans are diagnosed with Hepatitis C, there is no vaccine, no cure, and very little government funding available for research.

Through interviews with a handful of patients describing their experiences, we learn about the symptoms of Hepatitis C, the treatments available (both in traditional and complementary medicine), and how each person copes with the disease. The importance of disseminating accurate information about the disease and educating the public is a recurrent theme.

Technically, the production is excellent, with the present state of Hepatitis C in the United States revealed not only through patient interviews, but interviews with physicians and researchers. A fine program for an introductory level audience, Hepatitis C. A Viral Mystery is recommended for general library and health sciences library patient education collections.
