This film documents the complex issue of racism in Santiago de Cuba in pre-revolutionary Cuba through the memories and stories of the people who lived there. The movie uses powerful visual language and color, along with archival images, to transport the viewer to 1950's Cuba. The interweaving of color and history provides an interesting backdrop which records interracial tensions and challenges in Cuba prior to the Castro revolution. Those interested in Cuban history, race relations, and archival history would find this film of interest, and its viewing in classes studying race, 20th century history, and intercultural exchange will provoke much discussion.
