There was “Agent Orange” in Vietnam, “Gulf War Syndrome” from Desert Storm, and now we have a look at how the military’s use of “burn pits” to dispose of anything which was considered trash – everything from human waste to computers and furniture has been burned near United States’ military installations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The consequence is that thousands upon thousands of uniformed and civilian personnel have breathed in the toxic fumes and suffered from debilitating illnesses. Using interviews with those afflicted, VA doctors, and various advocates for the veterans, we see how the system has let down and not supported those who have given so much for their country. Seeing a wife helping her husband pour nutrient into his abdominal feeding tube may be a jolt to the viewer and speaks volumes.
