Reviewed by Sandy Costanza D’Youville College, Buffalo, NYAt six years of age Dinesh Das Sabu and his four older siblings find themselves on their own. Their mother committed suicide and their father died very shortly afterwards from cancer. Left to fend for themselves these individuals forged a life but didn’t really explore or understand what happened to them as children until this film.
Reunited for a family wedding in India they were able to talk about their circumstances from each other’s point of view. Memories of a specific event are always different for each person. They explore the tragedy of growing up parentless, finding their mother when she killed herself and how their father ignored the early signs of mental illness.
While the content is important the actual filming is difficult to watch as much of the photography is shaky and because there are several siblings who are interviewed, it is at times difficult to follow the progression of events.
