This beautifully photographed video presents the change in the perspective of art throughout history. Beginning with cave paintings, art has been and is more than depiction - human genius is a necessary component. Working through the ages including Egyptian, and Roman and Greek art, experts like sociologist Vera Zolberg, art journalist Catherine Millet, and art historian Marilyn Stokstad and Jean-Luc Chalumeau identify trends, revolutions, and new practices in art and in society. Beginning with Da Vinci, artists have differed from artisans, who were specialists and performed more routine assignments. With Picasso, around 1907, artists began questioning the established order and criticizing society through Abstract Art. Art presents a new view of the world. Today a small, elite group of art dealers determines criteria of what is good and/or valuable art.

Audio and video aspects and the editing by producer LeDuc and director Lisette Marcotte are very well done. Art selected is illustrative and engaging, including two-dimensional and three-dimensional formats. The pacing and mix of visual and audio information holds the interest of viewers. Though a somewhat academic subject matter and approach, public library patrons will also enjoy. This unique art program will interest secondary students as well as college and general public audiences. Highly Recommended.
