Moon Wars presents a timeline of current and future lunar exploration as it relates to the countries who are involved in what is known collectively as the “space race”. The film provides historical references throughout, including the beginnings of the modern space race in the mid-20th century. The central concept discussed is the moon as an extension of earthly continents with the countries of earth competing to exploit its resources. Better detail is given as regards to China’s space exploration journey and better still, the European Space Agency and its ongoing efforts to engineer human occupation of the moon’s surface. Good quality interviews with businessmen, astronauts, and policy makers are found throughout to help carry the narrative.

The film does a good job exploring the relatively recent private sector of the space industry. The big players discussed include SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin as well as a brief segment about a startup company called Astrobotics. The film is clearly slanted to the European portion of the space industry and has a few awkward segues but overall, it is well done. The narrator is easy to understand and the dubbed translations during interviews are clear. The film is high quality and the graphics throughout are modern and not at all outdated. I recommend this film to anyone curious about the forecast of space exploration and what it could mean for the moon.
