In a mostly chronological format, the film explores Gide's relationships with people, countries, and diverse subjects, including literature, philosophy, music, travel, and more. His deliberate and thoughtful way of speaking is captured on film, through conversations or readings of his own writing. Viewers who are familiar with his work will learn more about the depth of the man behind them, while viewers who are unfamiliar with his work will want to delve into it immediately after finishing the film.
