Daria Price (Out on a Limb) examines the art world through the modern art fraud that was perpetrated onto the renowned Knoedler Gallery in New York. Seeking to find the provenance (ownership record) of a certain Jackson Pollock painting (and others), the authenticity is questioned. This results in a court case. Told primarily via interviews, photographs and court drawings, experts weigh in as to how such a hoax could take place. Lawyers and journalists discuss the details of the forgery scandal. The film covers how experts are trusted and are not usually challenged. The documentary is recommended art students and those invested in the art market. Exit Through the Gift Shop is another film that is of interest on this topic. This is a rare look inside the gallery world of modern art that promotes understanding of how the business side works.
