The settings are simple, and the musical orations contribute to the dramatic overtones taking place in the narrative. However, the heresy trial tends to drone on, taking away from the actual plot. For English viewers, there are other options that provide an authentic portrayal of Joan of Arc's triumphs and struggles. The film does shed light on the historic struggle of women in the Catholic Church, as well as society overall.
