Period Party is a short, narrative film written and directed by Nicole Collins. It stars Collins and her on-screen and real-life daughter, Aadyn Encalarde. The film explores multiple women’s health themes including menstruation, motherhood, gender affirmation, and myomectomy, a surgical procedure to remove uterine fibroids. Because Period Party is fictional and does not delve deeply into the themes covered, it is not recommended as a central curricular resource, but the film could potentially be used to prompt discussion, particularly for programs designed to validate the health experiences of Black women and children. Ultimately, Collins succeeds in achieving a warm and celebratory tone that honors the importance of representation and community.
