This is a very short film, about 7 minutes long, which is best described as an animated poem about the fires at Yellowstone National Park in 1988. It’s very artistic and a wonderful visual and literary representation of this historical event. While there are ample details of the fires on the producer’s site, these are not present within the film; it’s clearly not intended to be a documentary. Due to the very short run time, it would be easy to fit into most any class time, with ample room for discussion. In the classroom it would make a great example of a way to communicate science or even history to a very broad audience. It could easily be held up as a good example project of a short, but powerful video, that students might aim to create as a project for a course. It would work well in a film studies, poetry, or a history of the National Parks course. Captions are available in the streaming format.
