Reviewed by Kristen Adams, Science & Engineering Librarian, Miami University LibrariesThis is a documentary with a very holistic view on the climate crisis. The creator acknowledges that many people’s views, and even their own in the past, was that the climate crisis was simply due to the rise of emissions caused by the use of fossil fuels - and renewable energy was the answer. However, it’s a multifaceted situation, and therefore many more solutions.
The documentary does really well at examining how all of Earth’s systems are interconnected, and how even localized efforts can have positive impacts. The run time is rather long, at over two hours, and with all the information presented, it is best viewed in segments. The creators actually provide natural breaks to pause between the three main portions of the film.
Due to the fact it covers so many aspects of the natural world, the film is valuable for a wide array of subject areas including, hydrology, soil science, agriculture, biology, ecology, geography, forestry, biochemistry, and others. There is plenty of content for creating an assignment, discussion, or essay. Viewers are expected to be a little familiar with some basic science concepts, although they are explained. Overall, I highly recommend this film for college or university students, or general adult audiences.
