Many films depict the downsides of animal farming and meat eating, ranging from cruelty to animals to the impact on the environment. Although the film Rowdy Girl touches on those subjects, it also addresses the issue of what animal farmers can do to maintain a successful farming livelihood if they no longer wish to farm or eat animals.

The film showcases an innovative Rancher Advocacy Program started by former ranchers in Texas who became vegan and started Rowdy Girl Sanctuary for animals. Through a combination of guidance, training, and funds from donations, the program helps farmers transition from animal farming to plant farming. One example shown is chicken farmers who successfully converted their existing structures into facilities to farm mushrooms. In addition to taking in animals, the Rowdy Girl Sanctuary founders also work on initiatives like inspiring transitioning cattle ranchers to let their cows live freely on natural pastures to improve local ecosystems.

The film is thoughtful, well-made, uplifting, and the audience can sense the genuine passion the sanctuary founders have for their work. It is highly recommended for general audiences, library collections, or college courses in agriculture.
