Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are two eating disorders affecting millions of Americans. These psychiatric diseases are about food and emotional control and can be lethal if not recognized and treated. Four eating disorder sufferers share their personal stories: a female college student, a single mother, a fashion model and a high school boy. Russell Marx, MD, clinical director of the Eating Disorders Program at the Medical Center of Princeton, and Marcia Herrin, EdD, MPH, RD, of the Dartmouth College Health Service, discuss causes, symptoms, treatments and prevention strategies. Producer Jamie Guth provides excellent narration, and the sound and video quality are very good.

Eating disorders require prompt diagnosis and treatment, and a victim’s family and friends may be key to making sure a loved one gets help. Highly recommended for academic, health sciences, middle school, high school and public libraries.
