This video, the first in the Writing Workshop series, is designed to provide a step-by-step system for improving writing skills. Educator Valerie Lewis explains the five stages of the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing), discusses why we write, and indicates that writing is both a talent and a skill that can be learned and developed. She offers helpful tips for approaching each stage of the writing process, and indicates that future videos in the series will feature authors and their approaches to the various stages of the writing process.

The video appears to be geared towards the junior high level, and it would be hard to present it to high school and adult audiences due to its basic and simple presentation. The Writing Process is recommended for English and writing classes at the junior high level, however, it is difficult to recommend the series based on the content of only one video, and the first in the series at that. Fifteen minutes does not seem like a sufficient amount of time for an introduction to the generally difficult and complex process of writing.
