The series Advances in Science & Technology covers a wide variety of technology advances in fields such as agriculture, computer science, health & medicine, transportation, etc. Within each area there are multiple topical videos. For example in the Health & Medicine area, videos address subjects such as cancer advances, dental care advances, and pain relief advances. Each video presents 4-6 advances in the noted field. Doctors Using High Technology is part of the health & medicine series and presents a brief overview covering 4-5 minutes for each advance from development to implementation. The 6 advances presented are: paramedic sight (remote EMS video exams), heart phone (sending heart monitor readings over the telephone), TV diagnosis (video-conferencing for remote diagnosis), Telecare (monitoring system to note changes in activities of daily living), digital hospital (digitizing x-rays and scans), and virtual surgery trainer (computerized surgical training systems). Technically well produced and of high quality. The entire series may not be appropriate for any one library’s collection, but a library may wish to collect in their topical area. The sole weakness to the series is that with the current speed of disseminating information on new technologies, the videos may become more a historical documentation rather than a current awareness tool.
